Paper Fred: Exhibition

Well, I'm officially throwing the towel in on this project. I was done with it along time ago...

Paper Fred: Exhibition, as the name suggests, is an engine which shows what I've learned to do using Gamemaker. It has six rooms with different arrangements. The first room is meant to look like it was drawn on paper and cut out. The later rooms show more color and depth. Though I worked on the project over the month of March, I really only spent about one week of work on it. The game will be made into a full length game in 2013.

Here is the link to the game:

If you can't play the game for whatever reason, the basic game mechanics are shown in this video.

Well, I'm off to enjoy 3 days vacation! See ya!

Fred 2nd Update

Yeah, this update shouldn't exist, but....

Last week was an absolute FAIL. I did no work whatsoever on my Fred project, and I managed to waste a lot of the time I needed to use to be productive. Great job. On the plus side, I was brainstorming some ideas for my next project. I can only hope that the time I have allotted for it will be enough to put all of my ideas into it without any errors. (That last sentence was awkward)

I'm going to have to keep dragging myself back to finish Fred once and for all. I'll release it in whatever state it's in on Friday. Wish me luck.

Fred Degrading

I think I've had my priorities misplaced. I'll admit, I'm already working on my next project, and the reality is that I don't have a whole lot of time until I plan to have it finished. And I really need it finished on time. The more I think about it, the more I cut the Fred project down in size. It wasn't going to be a full game anyway. I think I'm  going to just release it with one area.

Don't worry though! Remember, I said I was going to release a bigger and better Paper Fred in 2013? Well it will be exactly as I first envisioned Fred, how it was meant to be enjoyed. Plus, I think you'll all really love my newest project. And, yeah, it will be a full game.

Sometimes, actions speak louder than words. Time to get to work!

Fred Update

Here's a boring update for you:

Since lately I've been using lists as a means to procrastinate, I decided to make one so I can look at all the stuff I still need to do. There are 21 objects which I still need to draw, including backgrounds; 3 tilesets for the last two areas; 12 enemies, which means 4 for each area; 5 pieces of music for the entire game, which I need to compose; and 5 screens, like the title, intro, and death. Also, I need sound effects. The enemies will be the hardest because it means I have to do more coding, so I'll do them last. In the meantime, I just need to draw a lot of things. The drawing should be done by the end of this week. The whole project is not a lot of work but it does take up an enormous amount of time.

YouTube Channel is Up!

And there's some Paper Fred for you.

Videos

Currently, I'm setting up a YouTube account for my games, so I'll begin posting videos once that's complete. I expect the first video will show some Paper Fred movement.

Speaking of which, I am going to continue work on the game tomorrow. I'm currently working on the Area 2 & 3 environment and some more aspects of the engine which will allow for health. Lastly comes the enemies, the HUD, and the menu. Then I'll release it.

Paper Fred....Arriving this month!

I am, of course, very excited about my first ever game. It's not the most fun adventure game in the world because it's mostly for show, but it has some cool graphics. I've learned how to do a lot with Gamemaker in a short amount of time, and I'm very, very satisfied.

Finishing Date
So what day in March will it be complete? Toward the end of the month. Most likely on the 30th. I have about two thirds of the entire project completed, which I finished in a week.

Expectations
You'll probably want to know what you can expect from the game. You can expect an artistic environment, some conceptive gameplay, and (if I feel creative enough) even a short story. Other than that...not much else. Most likely the gameplay won't be that difficult. However, I do plan to make this into a challenging and inventive full-length game sometime in 2013.

Here's a screenshot:
Fred can jump as high as a house!
Again this is just a project. You should always start small, then you work your way up. I have a slew of projects which I will be planning next month so it's time to get this completed and out of the way. I'll put out a post when it's finished.
